San Francisco State University’s Journalism Department is inviting its students to join in a global conversation about the future of life in cities on October 22, and it will all occur via the Internet. It’s a great opportunity for students to experience how to utilize technology to stimulate a global movement.
The project, “On Cities,” has been organized by our friends at the Knight Center for International Media at the University of Miami. Their goal is to engage people around the world in conversations about the future of life in cities, and they plan to launch a multilingual film contest to stimulate digital filmmakers to tell stories about life in the cities where they live.
To kick it off on October 22, they will stream via the Internet a short film, “On Cities,” produced by Professor Sanjeev Chatterjee. “On Cities” explores imminent threats to contemporary cities around the world including Dubai, Sao Paolo, Mumbai and Miami due to rapid urban development. They are asking people around the world to organize film viewings and to participate in the discussion via Skype and Twitter.
Our Journalism Department has accepted the invitation to host a gathering. If you would like to organize a group yourself, please check out the “On Cities” Web site, which has more information about how to join the conversation. Even if you are not part of an organized group, you will be able to view the film via the Web site.
